Get Cheeky With It

So I dont know about you guys, but I did JACK SQUAT on valentines day. For the past couple of weeks I had been planning out all these cute things to do for the big day, like buying a little red dress, buying flowers, making chocolate covered strawberries, and when the day finally got here....I did nothing. All I did was laundry and yoga. BUT something really exciting did happen to me...I had an anonymous valentine delivery me chocolate ice cream...BUT that story will be shared on my youtube channel this week! Be sure not to miss it!

With all that being said, my roommate blake and I actually did a Vday themed shoot one night after we had ourselves a huge dinner at my favorite restaurant, Sage. (its an all plant based restaurant, for all you vegans out there. 10/10)

Claire Anderson actually shot my senior pictures right before I went on America's Next Top Model. Claire does such an amazing job with capturing the inner beauty in someone and really making them feel confident! She was visiting LA and I wanting to catch up and shoot with her again, but I had school to go to! So, we decided on a sunrise shoot in Santa Monica. This was my first sunrise shoot, and I love the lighting that morning gives!

2 Moods

Shot by: Danielle Stapley

@definitely.not.dani @waitingontheworld

For this post I didn't really know what to write about...that's why I have been putting off posting this set. But this shoot, ironically, reflects how I have been acting and/or feeling recently. As some of you may know, I have been going through a rough patch this summer. I dont want to shine light on the topic any longer, but I will say it has not been easy coping. I find that it is so easy for us, humans, to slap on a smile and to say and pretend we are okay because that's what we have been raised to do. Yes, a smile is deceiving, and literally, you NEVER know what someone is going through. Everyone is an actor whether you want to believe it or not. But someone, made a remark to me, asking, "why I have been acting bummed out on social media? I act just fine in person" What I write on social media is my thoughts, and my public diary. I am okay with sharing what is going through my brain. In person, of course, I wear my own mask. So DUH. I am a happy person, there are millions of reasons for me to be happy, but that DOES NOT change the fact that I am a hurt person. This photoshoot displays how me, and anyone else in the world, can have a mask on one second, and the next, show what we are really feeling.

Expect Nothing

Shot by: Rachel Halemanu @rhalemanu

If you follow me on other social media outlets you know that sometimes I go off on little tangents. One thing that has been knocking hard on my heart is Expectations. We as humans always expect something out of someone, something, and event, or whatever it may be. We always like to paint a pretty little picture of what we want the outcome to look like, but we forget that life and reality look totally different than out imagination. We hope for things that aren't  necessarily reachable. We end up feeling robbed or disappointed because the reality didn't turn out like we wanted it to. Ive been trying to take a step back and tell myself to "Expect Nothing," because when I do, I am always happy and content with whatever I receive. I'm not telling you to stop setting goals and dreams that you wish to accomplish, just sit back and let life write its own story for you.

I did an interview with Red Milk Magazine. Check out what I had to say down below or check it out here, on their website: http://redmilkmagazine.com/2016/06/beauty-selfie-lacey-claire-rogers/

What’s the hashtag you use the most?

I usually don’t use hashtag that often but if I did it would have to be #southernsass.

What’s your favorite Instagram account to follow?

I love feature pages, because it allows me to view other young photographers’ and models’ work. Super artsy. I have always been a fan of @waitingontheworld, and now they actually feature me a lot!

What’s the most embarrassing picture you have posted and the taken off?

Oh shoot, I would probably have to be a photo from high school. I posted a picture on the bathroom toilet because it was my first “pee as a sixteen years old”.

What’s your favorite part about Instagram?

I love how simple it is. You can easily see what people are doing, and thinking. I also love how easy it has made connecting with people!

What’s the biggest turnoff?

An obvious turn off would have to be arrogant, prideful people. But then again, having low confidence is also a turn off.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever gotten and from whom?

“When you look good , you feel good”. I made that one up but Jaclyn Hill taught me I better highlight them cheekbones everyday!

What’s your signature beauty look?

My hairstyle has become a signature for me. The dark short hair with bangs. I have received multiple tweets, instagram tags, and emails of people styling and cutting their hair to be like mine!

When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?

I have always wanted to bea n actress. I was in my first play in Kindergarten, and I grew to love entertaining people. I still pursue that dream.

What will you never find yourself posting?

I will never post body shaming. I makes me sick to see ugly, hateful shame all over instagram.

What’s the weirdest comment you’ve received from a follower?

Lets just say the weirdest comments I have received are not G rated.

What’s the picture that has gotten you the most likes?

I posted a picture of Nyle Di Marco and I walking across the street in a shoot we did togheter. It has about 41,000 likes now!

What cosmetic item could you never live with out?

As much as I love highlighter , I love lip products way more.

I was so happy to work with the brand Mon Cheri and Laine Berry Bridals! Even though I spent 10 hours in heels for 2 weeks, I still felt like I had my sassy britches on, and all I wanted to do all day was play "Diva" by Beyonce. I know, I know, I know, it is not Prom or formal season, BUT keep it in mind, because there are SO many dresses to go through. My fellow southernerns, one store that carries every single one of these dresses is in Conway Arkansas called the Royal We. SO ladies, if need a dress, cocktail, prom, formal, or even your wedding, I gotchu.

Let me just give you the dirty dirty truth of it all. The things everyone wants to know behind that "Goals" picture. Everything it takes to achieve that insta worthy pic.

IT IS HARD WORK. I went to bed on Friday night at 2AM, so basically Saturday Morning. I woke up at 5AM, and drove 6 hours with a group to Yosemite. Disclaimer...none of us knew what Yosemite was all about, none of us were prepared, and none of us had slept. As soon as we get to Yosemite, we pick the closest hike and started up the mountain around 1:00 PM. We did not get off that mountain until 7:30 PM. WE HAD NO FOOD, AND WE HIKED 8 MILES. Maybe it is just me, but a 4 mile hike up a mountain and down is hella long. Initially, I packed a bag with cute lil' outfits for the 'gram, but NO. I was being sassy, I was thirsty, I was hungry...and might I add, PMSing.... :) The only thing that kept me going was knowing the photos I'd get back were super rad...and that there were snakes out.

After the hike, we spent HOURS trying to find food and a place to sleep. We didn't find a place until 11:00 PM. I was so beat. Let me just say, "cute little adventures," aren't so cute.

Don't make me your shiny new toy that's not so shiny anymore.

Ive been thinking a lot recently, and if you follow me on other social media platforms you may know that I have been struggling to understand why people can be so cruel and quick to judge. I have been blessed with a huge following, and the comments and responses I receive are so encouraging. But the human nature in me, my flaw, is to focus on the few negative remarks I do get. It breaks my heart to know that if these comments make my heart ache, I can only imagine what is is like for other people, especially young girls who are still trying to discover themselves. Why is it so easy for someone to put down another person when they are no better? Why do we compare our actions and our sins? To build ourselves up? Jealousy? Why can't we ignore other's flaws instead of tearing down their confidence? Why can't we think of other's feelings? Why can't we just focus and fix our own flaws? You never know what someone is going through no matter how happy they may seem. Trust me, masks of happiness are very accessible.

I have always been told I look like a doll. Big eyes, pale skin, pouty lips. My freshmen year of high school, my friends and I would do "The doll face," where we relax everything in our faces but our eyes remained alive and round. It is so baffling to me that I am actually able to perform my "doll face" for magazines.

A day on the beach, sand in my toes, salt in my hair.

SCRATCH THAT. I love the beach, but man...the effort it takes. Have to load up, pack snacks, can't forget sunscreen, pick a beach, drive in traffic, TRY to find parking, get down there, find a spot without people invading your space, and then its cold. The beach....we have a love hate relationship.

I have been wanting do a shoot involving tons of food, where I can just dive in, but I have also been interested in shooting at night with the flash on.
